Still Life

In the ancient town of Fengjie along the Yangtze River, two travelers arrive independently amid massive demolition underway for the Three Gorges Dam project. Han Sanming, a coal miner from Shanxi, searches for the wife and daughter who left him sixteen years earlier, taking a job with a local demolition crew while awaiting word. Meanwhile, nurse Shen Hong seeks out her estranged husband, who departed two years prior and has since built a new life as a successful businessman. Against an epic backdrop of crumbling structures, displaced communities, and an ancient landscape being inundated, both confront the fragility of human connections in a rapidly transforming China.
