Across the Nightingale Floor

In a mythical feudal Japan, sixteen-year-old Tomasu survives the slaughter of his peaceful Hidden village by the tyrannical warlord Iida Sadamu. Rescued and adopted by the noble Lord Otori Shigeru, he receives the name Takeo and learns of his supernatural inheritance from the Tribe—an elusive lineage of assassins possessing superhuman hearing, stealth, and duplication powers. As Shigeru trains him for political survival and Takeo falls in love with the hostage noblewoman Shirakawa Kaede, he must master his lethal talents to cross a fortress defended by an alarmingly sensitive nightingale floor and avenge his benefactors.
