• I stayed up late to finish The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah. I couldn’t put the book down until I knew the ending and now I can’t stop thinking about this phenomenal book. I’m in awe of the range of Kristin Hannah’s storytelling with her vivid descriptions. This is a powerful, beautiful and heartbreaking read.

• This book is the chronicle of the women's war. It takes you by the hand to understand how war changes everything—cities, daily routines, scarcity, faces, memories. It gently shows how grief takes root from within. It lets you experience those years and events from a different perspective you might never have considered. It is a book that gets into your blood and moves you deeply.

• Kristin Hannah writes so exceptionally well. Avoiding avant-garde or flashy narrative devices, she uses heartfelt, plain language to tell the stories of ordinary people, revealing raw human emotions within intimate conflicts. Thanks to her courageous, graceful, and insightful storytelling, she captures the epic scope of WWII and illuminates a little-known, intimate history: the women's war. This heartbreaking, wonderful novel celebrates the resilience of the human spirit and the endurance of women.

• Reading it, I found it to be truly the epic masterpiece people praised, an emotional work impossible to read without tears. Set in France under Nazi occupation during World War II, it depicts two sisters of completely different temperaments confronting the war and growing. The gentle older sister was fragile and relied on her husband, but after he goes to the front, she sacrifices herself to fiercely protect her child. The sister ten years younger is reckless, revolts against Nazi rule, joins the Resistance, and strives to secure escape routes for Allied airmen. While heavy with wartime cruelties, the human drama of sisterly, parental, and marital love is deeply moving, vividly bringing to life the women who lived so strongly.

• Kristin Hannah's writing was another element that enchanted me in The Nightingale. Although thorough, the author's prose is never tiresome or excessive. In fact, it is the wealth of detail that immerses the reader even further into the story and shares every part of it with the characters. Despite addressing a subject covered by countless books, Hannah's work stands out by presenting World War II from the perspective of women.
