The Eternal Son

• This isn't the kind of reading I'm used to, but I was positively surprised. The way Cristóvão Tezza exposes his most intimate feelings is incredible. His fearlessness of being judged is a brave act in my view, creating an immense connection with the reader. It was my first book by the author, and I certainly plan to read more!

• Still, I enjoyed the book... It is about a father and his son with Down syndrome... covering the first 25 years of his life. In doing so, the father also looks back on his own life. Wonderful forgiveness and mutual recognition in both their lives. Well worth reading.

• What a dense and beautiful book. At no point does it force anything; it simply delivers the reality lived by a father who was unprepared and even uninformed regarding a child with a disability. Cristovão's writing is so natural and impactful that, even though I've experienced nothing remotely like the character's life, I identified with it multiple times, even sending excerpts to friends.

• Really interesting book. I definitely have never read anything like it. This is a translated book by a Brazilian author. It is ALL stream of consciousness - there is NO dialogue. It's just one man's thoughts for the entire 232 pages. My interest went in and out as I read, but in the end I thought it was pretty great. I especially enjoyed the last quarter or so of the book. I would recommend it.

• Finished, and I can almost say it's one of the best books of my life—almost, because there have been so many... but certainly among the very best! It was an incredible journey, and I almost grieve that I have already finished it and won't be able to experience this story for the first time again. Right now, I wish I had the gift of forgetting just to live this story all over again! It won over my soul, which wept, ached, smiled, and ended up spellbound by this writer's mastery!
