Drawing on letters, diaries, and photographs preserved in an attic trunk, the memoir traces merchants, doctors, and Warsaw publisher Jakub Mortkowicz through the 1905 Russian Revolution, the interwar cultural scene, the Holocaust, and postwar Communist Poland.
