Hidden Truths

• The engaging plot and the daring approaches made Verdades Secretas one of the author's best telenovelas. Carrasco, this time more restrained in the dialogue and cautious with humor, showed far more subtlety than usual when compared to previous works.

• Combined with a dense script full of dramatic weight, director Mauro Mendonça Filho and his sharp team succeeded in carrying out their work with undeniable mastery, delivering anthology-worthy scenes that have already gone down in the history of Brazilian television.

• The plot involving Angel, Carolina, and Alex would be an attractive romance anywhere on the planet. It is quite possible that the on-screen transgressions clash with conservative moralism in several countries, but the story itself is extremely intriguing. I dare say it was the strength of the plot that made the audience get hooked on the Truths revealed throughout the telenovela.

• While I don't speak Portuguese at all, it was clear from the very first episode that this show was one of high quality - a quality beyond what you'll find from North American telenovelas or prime time soap operas. The visual production was artistic and engaging. And it was clear that the cast was top notch.

• What a chilling and tear-jerking scene, Larissa looking at herself in the mirror and seeing the state she is in. Grazi is putting on an acting masterclass. Finally they will see her as a serious actress.
