• What happened to Laura in Pearl Bay is what made the series such engaging viewing. It helped that the town was populated by a cast of odd but endearing characters such as hapless chancer and scheming estate agent Bob Jelly (John Howard), local layabout Griff (Brett Swain) and gentle hotel-owner and walking encyclopedia Meredith Monahan (Jill Forster) . . . and a potential love interest in a laid-back renaissance man known as Diver Dan (David Wenham).

• The cast is dominated by strong women, all of them exploring love and relationships in different ways, but none of them perfect; and by the same token, even the antagonists are given fair shrift, with no straw man characters and development for all.

• Oh man I was actually just thinking about this the other day! I think all of them were really good. I wish Diver Dan hadn't left, but Max was a good replacement as well. And I had a major soft spot for Warwick.

• Diver Dan, he was the one that disappeared off to Galápagos Islands but I can’t help myself he’s just the best. Max was amazing too though and just what Laura needed. At least he stuck around 😂

• I just watched this for the first time a few weeks back and I watched the whole first season almost back to back. I just couldn't stop. It's hilarious. I love it. Having spent some time living in small towns (both here and back home) it really hits the nail on the head with the small town/village mindset.
