  • A good telenovela. It had a beautiful story, meticulous period recreation, and in my view, was Bruno Gagliasso’s last good character in novelas. [...] In Joia Rara, he made a wonderful pair with Bianca Bin. Highlights also include the cabaret storyline and the lovely pairing formed by Carolina Dieckmann and Domingos Montagner.

  • Ernest is a perfect villain, telenovela-speaking. Arrogant, powerful, with Nazi airs, believing himself above good and evil and capable of controlling everyone’s life. [...] José de Abreu is great in the role, giving him personality and distancing himself from Nilo in Avenida Brasil.

  • An impeccable production, the plot recreated the 1930s and 1940s—both in Rio de Janeiro and Nepal—in a gorgeous manner across sets, costumes, and art direction. Meticulous, cinematic photography, confident direction by experienced Amora Mautner, a beautiful soundtrack, and a great cast delivering memorable performances. Technically speaking, Joia Rara was indeed a gem.
