The Tribe

• I remember when I was a kid and watched this first episode; the aesthetic and the strange story always stayed etched in my memory. I don't know why, but today I thought about it, without even knowing its name. Best regards. Thank you.

• Though we don’t really see anything of Tai San’s life or survival strategy before becoming a Mallrat, it would be wrong not to include her here as it is essentially her philosophy and beliefs that transform the Mallrats from a group of young people sharing the same space and resources into a Tribe, a proper community united by common values and loyalties.

• The very heart of the tribe, Salene constantly pushed everyone to work together in order to achieve their goals, always made sure that even the youngest members of the tribe had their voices heard, and tried to keep everything together when it all seemed like it would fall apart.

• Each tribe had their own distinctive look and a lot of the makeup and costume design on the show was very impressive. I don’t know why but I have always enjoyed shows in this genre as characters with purple hair bicker with one another to solve their various problems.

• Many 90s TV shows and movies divided their characters into factions. While Harry Potter is criticized for its unrealistic division, The Tribe did it extremely well. The characters were products of their circumstances, leading to tribes like The Mall Rats, who lived in an abandoned shopping center, the forest tribe called The Ecos, and the capable survivalists The Farm Girls.
