Detective Montalbano

• Montalbano is just so comforting to watch compared to many other series running nowadays—if they even survive beyond a few episodes at all...

• The series balances some dark crimes with a lighter touch, dashes of humour among the action, and a rather wonderful evocation of its Sicilian setting, including the gastronomy. With 37 feature length episodes across 14 seasons, and more in the pipeline, there’s plenty to savour for crime fans.

• I loved, loved, loved the TV series, AND the extras on MHz AND The Young Montalbano spinoff. Totally enjoyable, entertaining, and challenging, beginning to end. What a fantastic group of actors, drawn from the best of local and regional Sicilian theaters for all the tiny roles–the nosy landlady, the vamp, the put-upon street vendor. Bellissima!

• Tremendous actor and a completely gripping series, with marvelous locations. Once you start watching it, you can't put it down. I would love to watch it all over again.

• Personally, I find this series brilliant for its lavish scenery and landscapes, its unique atmosphere, the wonderfully colorful characters, and the commissioner's charisma. A "timeless" show just the way I like them...
