Following the film Hero Nguyen Trung Truc, Binh Tay Dai Nguyen Soai (directed by Phan Hoang) was invested as a major historical drama through collaboration between Ho Chi Minh City Television and Cuu Long Film Studio. Airing on HTV9 and HTVC Thuan Viet, it has initially garnered extensive praise from industry peers and television audiences alike.
From Thế giới điện ảnh Binh Tay Dai Nguyen Soai applies quite a lot of 3D techniques to the film: from explosions, crocodile attacks, tiger ambushes, fortress walls, French warships attacking coastal waters, to multiplying crowds for grand scenes... According to director Phan Hoang, the use of 3D techniques ensured actor safety during explosions while solving scenes that were otherwise impossible to film.
Hoàng Lê on Tuổi Trẻ Compared to the film Hero Nguyen Trung Truc (also produced by Cuu Long Film Studio and directed by Phan Hoang, previously aired on HTV9), the battle scenes in Binh Tay Dai Nguyen Soai are faster and more spectacular... In addition, the music (composed by musician Bao Chan) also creates a heroic atmosphere.
