In the Colombian mountain town of San José, retired teacher Ismael Pasos spends quiet afternoons peering over his neighbor's garden wall. When rival armed factions invade and residents flee or disappear, Ismael refuses to leave, wandering the devastated town in search of his wife Otilia.
