Lagaan: Once Upon a Time in India
लगानIn Victorian-era colonial India, villagers suffering through a severe drought face crippling agricultural taxes from their British overlords. The film clearly belongs to Aamir Khan, who enacts his part marvellously. He gets ample scope to display histrionics when the cricket match begins and must say, the actor is in top form. This is without doubt his best work to date.
Taran Adarsh on Bollywood Hungama Lagaan is a lavish epic, a gorgeous love story, and a rollicking adventure yarn. Larger than life and outrageously enjoyable, it's got a dash of spaghetti western, a hint of Kurosawa, with a bracing shot of Kipling.
Peter Bradshaw on The Guardian “Lagaan” is an enormously entertaining movie, like nothing we've ever seen before, and yet completely familiar
