In 1962, Italian-American bouncer Frank "Tony Lip" Vallelonga is hired to drive virtuoso African American pianist Dr. Don Shirley on a concert tour through the segregated Deep South. Relying on The Negro Motorist Green Book to find safe lodging, the disparate pair confront prejudice, danger, and mutual misunderstandings, forging an unexpected friendship along the road.
