Within this comedic plot comes a poignant performance from Ana Scotney. Scotney focuses her character on the why of her actions. What would make this person jump through so many hoops out of fear of disappointing everyone in her life? This story of mental health centers on her fear and guilt as we discover a few of Millie’s truths behind the initial panic attack and her perception of herself.
Alan Ng on Film Threat Scotney’s face barely masks the turmoil inside of Millie, her personal disappointment, her terror of disappointing others, her bitterness at realizing she isn’t fooling anyone and at the way her lies and rash impulses ripple out among others, hurting them and creating layers of collateral damage.
Roger Moore on Movie Nation Occasionally a film comes along where both the writing and the acting strike such a magical chord that you lose yourself in the sublime beauty of the movie and the performance. Millie Lies Low is one of those films, and Ana Scotney as its titular character turns in one of the most refreshing performances to hit the screen this year.
Greg Archer on MovieWeb Ana Scotney embodies the taut desperation at the heart of this film with an exhilarating performance as Millie, leaning into the cringe comedy that underpins the most excruciating moments of action.
Rachel Ashby on Flicks It’s a testament to Scotney’s performance that Millie retains a perverse kind of integrity even as she dupes herself more than the people around her.
