Caminho das ÍndiasMaya Meetha belongs to a traditional merchant family in Rajasthan and falls in love with Bahuan, an educated Dalit man. When caste customs prevent their marriage, her parents arrange a union with Raj Ananda, who is still attached to his Brazilian girlfriend. After marrying Raj, Maya conceals the paternity of her newborn son while the couple builds a life together between Jaipur and Rio de Janeiro.

Never before in Brazilian television history had audiences rooted so hard against the lead pair (Maya and Bahuan) ending up together, simply because the chemistry between the heroine and another upstanding suitor (Maya and Raj), equals in Indian caste, proved vastly more intense than with the former. Caminho das Índias is absurdly cultural and packed with lifelong teachings! (^^^)
Jernê Knowles on Filmow The novelty of Caminho das Índias, and its greatest appeal, was bringing Indian culture and its unique features and curiosities—so exotic to Brazilian eyes—to the audience. Just as she had done in O Clone (2001–2002) with the Islamic world, and later in Salve Jorge (2012–2013) with Turkish culture, author Glória Perez wove an engaging tapestry of customs and traditions from a culture very different from the West.
Nilson Xavier on Teledramaturgia I loved this telenovela so much that I had to search for it online to watch it again. The music, the Indian setting, the characters, and especially the diverse life lessons the telenovela showed to the audience were great.
