Deep Rooted Tree

• Without doubt the best historical drama I have ever seen. Great actors and excellent story. No boring parts. I always liked korean letters and now I know about its history too. Thanks to all staff for this drama.

• I've seen enough sageuk and I say this is among the top. It fills the sensibilities much more than it pulls at the heartstrings. I am grateful to those who were involved in making such a valuable treasure --- I don't care if it's just mostly fiction. What matters is that it talks about humanity and is a champion of compassion, openness, and hope. The cinematography+music is refreshing, too.

• The writing in this superb. Perhaps because it deals with matters so close to my heart -- language and literacy that I have a special affinity with it. However, in all other ways that matter, it is really one of the best kdramas ever made.

• So this drama is, first and foremost, very brave: it takes a topic generally considered yawn inducing - and conceited - and builds upon it one of the cleverest, suspenseful plot I've had the fortune to watch. Because the topic intrigued me, I approached this drama expecting to be intellectually swept away. What I wasn't prepared for, was to have my feelings deeply involved too.

• There is plenty of stylishly choreographed action and several hot guys with swords. However, as befits the show’s subject, the real battles are fought with words. And those battles are some of the most extraordinary I’ve ever seen on film.
